A dramatic turn of events in Ukraine have unfolded after an agreement between Viktor Yanukovych and the opposition was meant to end the crisis.
It did not.
Yanukovych still claims to be the legitimate head of state after he was impeached in parliament. Many think the opposition is not capable of holding the country together in this transitional period.
Yanukovych’s arch rival, Yulia Tymoshenko is now free after more than two years in jail. She wants closer ties with the EU, but whether she’ll become the new president remains to be seen…
And with Russia witholding a $2bn aid package, Ukraine’s financial security is in question. There are now serious worries that Ukraine could split apart.
