Rallies began on Saturday in Ramallah to protest a planned meeting between Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz.

As protesters headed for Abbas(***) headquarters - the Muqata - on Saturday, they were intercepted by police officers.

Dozens of young Palestinians clashed with police forces, leading the protest to be shut down. Several participants were hospitalised for their injuries.
A second protest was called on Sunday after Saturday(***)s rally was violently suppressed. One frequent chant throughout the protests was "The people want to bring down Oslo", referring to the 1993 negotiations that established the PA.
Sunday(***)s protest was also violently suppressed as Palestinian police and plainclothes security officials beat a crowd of about 200 demonstrators in Manara Square, injuring at least three and arresting several others.

On Tuesday, police stood down as hundreds of Palestinians finally reached the Muqata from central Ramallah. In part, the protest was called to demonstrate against the violent dispersal of the rallies over the weekend, and ended without incident.
