The Koung Jor Shan refugee camp celebrated its first ever Shan New Year since the camp was established in 2002. About 500 refugees who fled from fighting between the Shan State Army-South and government troops have called the unofficial refugee camp north of the Thai city of Chiang Mai home for over a decade. Now they face an uncertain future as the possibility of repatriation back to Myanmar looms ahead despite ongoing clashes between Shan armed groups and the Myanmar army.
